The Windsor African Violet Society was organized in 1960 and is an affiliate of the African Violet Society of America Inc.

The object of our Society is to provide a forum for African violet enthusiasts to share their interest in the propagation and culture of the African violet and other gesneriads.

Our Society incorporates both a daytime and an evening group which meet in members homes.

The daytime group meets the 4th Monday from September through May at 11:30 a.m. The evening group meets the 1st Tuesday from September through June at 7:00 p.m.

Meetings begin with a business session and are followed by an informative program. Programs include techniques for growing and grooming violets, lighting, watering, fertilizing, pest management and more.

Our Society sponsors an annual judged violet show and sale in early spring at which time members enter their best plants for judging to win ribbons and prizes. Commercially grown plants are sold at the sale. We promote membership in the African Violet of America (AVSA), our national organization, as well as other local educational African violet or gesneriad-oriented organizations.

Many of our members, officers, and judges often conduct educational workshops for local garden clubs and other organizations. Our membership frequently takes opportunities to share plants and knowledge with others and to actively promote the African violet and its cultivation. Over the years, our members have contributed to the AVM and other African violet and gesneriad publications.

Membership in the Windsor African Violet Society is $10.00 per year. Members come from the surrounding towns of Windsor, East Windsor, Bloomfield, Bolton, Farmington, Granby, Hampton, Hartford, Kensington, New London, Lebanon, Simsbury, Suffield, West Hartford, and even Chicopee, Mass.
